Photovoltaics on containers – greater energy independence in your workplace

Photovoltaics on containers and modular buildings is an innovative response to new trends in ecological electricity production, cost optimization and energy independence. In order to prepare the most optimal solution for container facilities, we carried out a number of conceptual works, tested various panel variants, their configuration and assembly methods. All works were carried out in cooperation with experienced specialists, and the assembly took place on our office pavilion made of office and sanitary containers.

This allowed us to gain valuable experience through the selection of panels and devices, installation, and ongoing use. Ultimately, the offered solution ensures very quick installation of panels on the roof of the container, efficient installation and use, all while maintaining the mobility of the containers.

Containers with photovoltaic panels are an ecological solution for business entities and private activities that want to ensure energy independence through their own energy production and storage.

Structure for mounting photovoltaic panels on containers

The panel mounting structure is made of galvanized steel profiles and is installed on the container frame, thus protecting the container roof. The structure is assembled with screws.
The frame is stable and durable, which ensures the safety of both users and protects the panels against movement. Due to their low weight, the panels do not require specialized transport.
The structure is each time prepared for a specific number of panels.

Photovoltaics with containers

Description and advantages of the completed installation in the Mobilbox branch

Installation:

  • 7.8 kWp photovoltaic system with 5 kWh energy storage

System components:

  • Photovoltaic modules 16 x 435W
  • 6 kW photovoltaic inverter
  • 5kWh energy storage
  • Non-invasive mounting system on containers

Description of the photovoltaic installation constructed at the Mobilbox branch:

The PV installation is located on the roofs of three office containers, one of the containers contains an inverter, energy storage and electrical protection. The photovoltaic modules used in the system are made in bifacial N-Type technology, using light reflected from the roof of the container, and the transparency of the modules allows to maximize energy production. Another technology used in the modules is TopCon. This technology allows for greater energy yield even on cloudy days. The mounting structure and flat laying allow for quick and safe installation and can be used in places exposed to high winds. The slight decrease in energy productivity due to this arrangement of modules is compensated by the N-Type, Bifacial and Top-Con technologies used. Placing the container flat on the roof allows for any orientation of the container in relation to the cardinal directions and the solar world.

The photovoltaic inverter used in the system allows for use in on-grid variants, i.e. in cooperation with the power grid, off-grid, i.e. outside the power grid, and hybrid with the possibility of backup in the event of interruptions in the supply of energy from the grid.
The system works by producing electricity for the needs of electrical receivers in containers. In case of excess energy produced by the system, it goes to the energy storage. It can be used after the end of solar energy production and in the event of interruptions in the supply of energy from the grid. The inverter system settings do not allow energy to flow into the power grid on the operator’s side. It is possible to report the installation as a micro-installation and settle accounts with the operator in the prosumer format.

System operation order:

  1. Energy production for receivers in containers.
  2. Energy production for the needs of receivers – if there is a surplus – goes to the energy storage.
  3. Production for the needs of receivers – if there is a shortage – use of stored energy.
  4. Production for own needs – if there is a shortage and the energy storage has been exhausted – using energy from the operator’s power grid.
  5. Backup function – if there is no energy from the grid and no energy is produced from the photovoltaic system – use of energy from the storage until it is exhausted.

Benefits of the offered system as of May 8, 2024.

  1. Financial:

a) Reducing energy consumption from the grid – reducing bills.
b) Reduction of financial losses resulting from interruptions in energy supply.

2. Ecological:

a) Reducing the carbon footprint – producing your own green energy.
b) Network and voltage stabilization – longer life of devices and energy receivers. The system will produce approximately 6,600 kWh of energy per year. Estimated self-consumption of energy is estimated at approximately 30% of current energy production. Energy storage can increase auto consumption by up to 100% – the condition is a favorable energy consumption profile (receivers such as computers, routers, power supplies, lighting, air conditioners – all receivers that consume constant power).

Financial benefits

  1. Savings on purchasing energy from the grid. The price of energy at the C11 construction tariff with net distribution is PLN 2.30 per 1kWh.
The system allows you to save 6,600 x PLN 2.30 = PLN 15,180.00 per year
  2. Savings with energy security. Power outage for 8 hours with 4 people working in the office.
    Loss caused by a break in work of 32 working hours – 32 x PLN 60 = PLN 1,920
(according to the average salary in the enterprise sector January 2024 – cost
employers; average length of planned power outages in cities according to PSE in 2023 – 8 hours).
Financial savings for a 7.8kWp system with a 5kWp energy storage can be estimated at approximately PLN 17,000.00.

Ecological benefits:

  1. Reduction of carbon dioxide emissions by 5.79 tons per year – the amount absorbed by approximately 955 trees per year.
  2. Reduction of emissions of carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, sulfur dioxide, PM2.5, PM10.

What can be achieved with the system?

Savings of PLN 17,000.00 per year thanks to our photovoltaic system with energy storage.
A one-time investment and benefits for many years – the system ensures energy stability and financial savings.
Power outage? The loss is PLN 1,920 – the photovoltaic system ensures energy security.
Savings of 30% on bills thanks to self-consumption of energy from the sun.
An investment that brings profits – our photovoltaic system pays for itself within 3 years, providing you with savings for many years.
Save 6,600kWh of energy per year – this is enough to power many office receivers and the uninterrupted work of four office workers.
Reducing air pollution emissions – our photovoltaic system contributes to a cleaner future for everyone.
Reducing CO2 emissions by 5.79 tons per year – the equivalent of over 955 trees.
Our photovoltaic system will save you tens of thousands of zlotys and tons of CO2 over the years.

Transport of a photovoltaic installation

Transport of photovoltaic panel elements can be done by a transport vehicle. Transport of containers equipped with a photovoltaic installation after the completed project requires its disassembly and reassembly in a new location.

Installation of a photovoltaic installation on containers

Easy and simple installation is ensured by galvanized steel sections, ready to be screwed together with screws, ensuring stability, strength and safety during use.
